The Zanaco Green Innovation Challenge (ZGIC) celebrates the achievements of Wastemat Limited, Global Empowers Limited, and Twalima Agro Solutions as the programme comes to a close. These three finalists have shown the essence of mentorship and innovation, with all six milestones and six mentor-led workshops completed.

Wastemat Limited continued to challenge the stigma in menstrual hygiene with eco-friendly solutions, achieving a 32% growth in sales and a 22% reduction in carbon emissions between April and December 2024. Partnering with FastPrint Zambia for sustainable packaging, they are continuing to expand their reach across Africa to provide reusable sanitary pads for girls in need.

Global Empowers Limited’s “Water Does Matter” project brought clean water to 2,500 residents in Kampasa Village, Chongwe District. Through the construction of a second water station, they addressed critical water scarcity issues impacting the community. Their outreach in Hamilenge highlighted the impact of water scarcity on education, especially for girls. Providing access to safe drinking water restores dignity and creates opportunities for affected communities.

Twalima Agro Solutions made significant progress in promoting clean cooking alternatives. Launching an improved biogas product, they secured their first paying customer, a milestone which validates their vision. Founder Andrew Mpashi highlighted the health and environmental benefits of transitioning from traditional cooking methods to cleaner energy solutions.

As the ZGIC programme concludes, we celebrate the milestones achieved as well as the partnerships, mentorship, and the impact they continue to make in Zambian communities. We appreciate Zanaco for the great partnership and the mentors for their commitment and support throughout this programme.
