WfW has been active in the vocational skills development sector since 2016. What began with 9 students in a tiny back room at the Lusaka Vocational Training College, has culminated into pioneering work spanning the development of curriculum and practical development units (PLUs) and over 1,000 graduates in under a decade.
Now, leveraging our deep expertise and wide industry network, and as part of our ongoing commitment to building technical capacity and creating meaningful job opportunities within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, we are proud to announce the launch of our Continuous Vocational Education and Training (CVET) - Masterclass in Plumbing.

CVET refers to educational and training activities undertaken after initial education or training, or after entering the workforce, with the goal of upgrading skills, acquiring new ones, or supporting professional development. It is a key component of lifelong learning and is crucial for individual employability. The CVET will adopt a blended learning approach which combines face-to-face classroom instruction with online learning activities and resources designed to equip young professionals with the technical knowledge and practical expertise needed to build sustainable careers in the WASH sector. For WfW, the programme marks another significant step in bridging the skills gap in the local water and sanitation sector.

Combining virtual learning, in-person instruction, and on-the-job industry exposure, the CVET model ensures that participants are not only trained in theory but also gain real-world, hands-on experience. This dual-track education model supports both classroom learning and fieldwork, preparing trainees for the realities of today’s job market.
“CVET is more than a training course, it’s an investment in people who will help build the future of safe water and sanitation in Zambia,” said Eng. Michelo Mwiya, who is leading the initiative.
For the pilot phase, 15 candidates were carefully selected to join the programme based on their commitment, potential, and passion for contributing to WASH service delivery. Over the next five months, these trainees will take part in a practical and industry-linked training journey guided by seasoned experts and professionals in the field.
